Cardigan Arts Programme 2025

Report on our April Exhibition:

We’ve had a very successful and impressive exhibition at Rhosygilwen over Easter. Congratulations to all who were involved and a huge thankyou to the organisers, especially to Martin, Brenda and Glyn, Errol and Richard Cain. What an amazing venue Rhosygilwen is!

Wednesday 21 May 2-5pm

Meet at St Dogmaels Memorial Hall

The next Cardigan Arts workshop – a nature sketch walk in St Dogmaels, is less than 3 weeks away now on Wednesday May 21st 2-5pm. I’m delighted to say that local wildlife expert and nature sketch enthusiast Steve Halton will be joining us. Steve is a font of ecological knowledge as well as artistic inspiration - some of you may know him from his Moylegrove nature walks or from his talk on swifts this week in St Dogs. Everyone is free to follow their own artistic ideas – so that may mean staying outdoors for the whole session or it may involve taking some photos or brief sketches then settling down in the community hall to work on your artwork there. The Gollop suite at back of the community hall will be available throughout the whole afternoon for loos, refreshments etc.

I’m writing this in the balmy and unseasonably hot sunshine that we have all been enjoying, but which may not last… and so we shall cater for all weather eventualities!

If dry – we shall be walking/sketching/chatting/observing in the footpath area by the Teifi river below the community hall. For anyone with mobility issues there are benches just in front of the Maeshyfryd  Parking area that have views up and down the river. We will aim to meet in the memorial hall around 2pm, hear a brief introduction about some of the nature highlights of the Teifi from Steve, grab a coffee then head out along the Teifi river footpath by around 2.30pm. So either meet in the hall at 2pm or you might wish to meet on the open area in front of the parking area at 2.30pm. Bring a folding chair plus sketching/painting materials of your choice.

If wet – we shall bring nature indoors to the Gollop Suite at the back entrance of St Dogmaels community hall and sketch/chat/observe indoors. We will provide a variety of specimens to study, draw or paint

What to bring:

Folding seat

Sketchbook

Pencils/ink/pastel/watercolour/acrylic/charcoal/eraser etc of your choosing

Jar for water if needed for watercolour

I’m really looking forward to hopefully(!) outdoor sketching alongside other artists, seeing as the Teifi river is a top habitat for a huge array of species – not least the visiting osprey, plus many other species including kingfishers, otters, egret, curlew and an array of butterflies. Or you may wish to focus on the flora, or vistas and river reflections – it’s very much your choice!  Let me know if any questions – or suggestions
